What does a morning routine look like for a professional soccer player?
Good habits are EVERYTHING to a professional soccer player playing at the highest level. Shoot (not literally), good habits are everything for being successful in anything we do. We must understand the importance of how well we perform when good habits are in place. What do you consider to be a good habit or routine?
Here’s a glimpse into my routine with Atlanta United:
6:00 a.m. - Wake up and my 1st good habit of the day was making my bed/ brushing my teeth/ etc.
6:30 a.m. - Drop my son off at Pre-K
6:45 a.m. - Arrive at the training facility along with just a couple others (first ones to arrive)
7:00 a.m. - Eat a healthy breakfast
7:15 a.m. - Hop into the hot tub to get legs warm
7:15 a.m. - Take a crossword puzzle into hot tub to warm up my brain and get my mind to focus for the day
7:30 a.m. - See physical therapist to work on any tight muscles and hip mobility
7:45 a.m. - If the chiropractor was in, get adjusted
7:50 a.m. - Hop on stationary bike for 10 min
8:00 a.m. - Foam roll / additional stretching
8:10 a.m. - Core circuit
8:20 a.m. - Pre-hab exercises along with injury prevention
8:35 a.m. - Mini circuit upper body exercises
8:50 a.m. - Head to field for 9am training
AND THEN TRAINING STARTS!
I will also add that every athlete has their own routine. And my routine changed over time (For example, I didn’t have kids early in my career, or bad hips 🤣).
But this does give a good glimpse into the habits and discipline needed to play at the highest level. So…what's your routine look like?
