Selecting a Soccer Club

Selecting a club or changing clubs is a decision that players and their parents face.

If you are a player aspiring to maximize your soccer journey, these decisions can be difficult. You may need to leave familiar environments, like friends, teams, coaches, and leagues, in order to pursue better growth and exposure.

With so many clubs and pathways available today, each decision can significantly impact a player’s trajectory.

These decisions require careful consideration from both players and their parents of what will best support the player’s development and ambitions in the sport.

OPPORTUNITY and VISIBILITY are the two most important factors that we advise our players and their parents to think about when selecting a club.

Opportunity may not always come knocking, and in order to advance your soccer journey, you must be seen. Opportunity and visibility are crucial to your advancement!

Select a club that will provide the best opportunities for you

Will you have sufficient playing time to develop your skills and grow as a player? Does the club have a good approach to player development? Does the club have a proven track record of helping players advance to higher levels (academy, college, etc.)?

Select a club that will give you visibility to be seen by others

Does the club compete in a level of competition where you can showcase your abilities in league games and tournaments where scouts and coaches might be present?

Does the coach or club have a good reputation within the soccer community where they have connections with other coaches, scouts, academies, colleges, etc., which could facilitate your visibility and advancement?

Your decision in choosing a club should be made with YOU in mind! Not your friends, not your team, not your coach–just YOU!

Choosing a club may require compromises, which aren’t always easy, but opportunity and visibility can be beneficial and the best decision for YOU!

· Take those opportunities.

· Be seen.

· Do what is best for YOU!
